Fira, Imerovigli and Oia are famous towns that cling to the top of the cliffs overlooking the caldera. The centre of what was a much larger island dropped 300 meters below sea level to form a giant lagoon, known as “The Caldera’. The island’s unique geology is the result of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history. The island is famous for its black volcanic sandy beaches and high-end style. Santorini is a tiny Island, just 28 square miles and home to only around 13,600 Greek citizens. Locals are very welcoming to all, accepting the gay and lesbian audience equally. There are frequent ferry connections between Santorini and Mykonos in the summer season. Many visitors combine Santorini with a trip to Mykonos.
A famous and romantic destination offering magnificent sunsets and superb volcanic beaches, the island is better suited to gay couples than single guys looking for fun.

To Balcony tou Aki – located on the southern tip of the island on Aliki Beach, this deck restaurant right at the water’s edge really impressed me. Try and secure the balcony table and a round of ouzo. Meat Bar – for a fourth meal souvlaki at midnight.
Ydroussa – an upscale, romantic, candlelit garden with a gregarious Italian owner, who serves up delicious pasta and crispy pork belly.

If they too have read Corelli’s Mandolin, I’m screwed. I stashed it away, lest the cat sitters find it. I avoided the pile of pages instead, justifying I had to pack.
